(K.H. Ahmad Dahlan's perspective)

This article was inspired by the dialogue snippet from the film "The Enlightenment" which was adapted from the historical novel by Akmal Nasery Basral.

 

Let's consider the following dialogue excerpt:

"What is actually called religion, Kiai?" 

Ask a student to KH Ahmad Dahlan.

KH Ahmad Dahlan actually took the violin and played the song "Asmarandana" to lull the students.

Then he asked, "How did you feel after hearing the music earlier?"

"I feel the beauty, Kiai," replied Daniel.

"It's like a dream," said Sangidu.

"All problems seem to suddenly disappear, peaceful," added Jazuli.

"So peaceful," said Hisman.

"Well, that's religion," replied KH Ahmad Dahlan.

"Religious people are people who feel beauty, a sense of serenity, peace because the essence of religion itself is like music. It protects and envelops it."

After that, a student named Hisman tried the violin, and it made a "creaking" sound. 

Makes the listener dizzy.

"Wow, his voice is messy, kiai..?" Hisman asked, blushing.

"Well, so is religion. If we don't study it well, religion will only disturb ourselves and the environment," he replied.

"I see... So to be able to have a good religion, we must not join in, but must understand the science as well. Like before, just because we see Kiai playing the violin, don't immediately think that we can also play the violin." 

Jazuli added..

"Good conclusion," he replied. 

"Any other conclusions?"

"In religion, we can't just rely on desire, just because we feel that desire is good. For example, earlier I felt that I had a good desire to play the violin, but it turns out that my desire actually disturbs me and other people," said Hisman.

"Clever conclusion! Thank you"

Praise KHA Dahlan.

Hopefully by living the religion we believe in, we are able to respect others and bring peace in our lives together.

Next, we need to reflect more deeply. 

Do we have religion and/or Muhammadiyah as stated by K.H Dahlan, namely peace, serenity, harmony, and a series of terminology that is idioms with all of that? 

Or quite the opposite?
